Celine Loraine scored the winner for Signal Hill Secondary School to be crowned the Girls' "Big Five" champion in the Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League on Wednesday.
The leading scorer for Signal Hill this season hit the target in the 28th minute to take her team past rival Pleasantville Secondary, 1-0 at the Plymouth recreation ground in Tobago.
The Tobago champion team, captained by Ashante Wilson Campbell, was overjoyed with victory and being able to exact revenge on the South Zone winner, who only a year ago defeated them in the "Big Five" final (2-0).
"This is a very important victory for us as you know we are doing it in honour of Abriela Adams. Coming into the final, I knew we would have been successful and thank you Lord for the victory," said Campbell, referring to her former teammate who was murdered two years ago.
"We came to fight 100 per cent and know that we prepared for this and we came out victorious. We worked on the more technical part of our game. We definitely were the fitter team, we left everything out on the field."
The defending champion Intercol, Pleasantville, though dominating teams this season winning by huge margins, found it tough to get one in the back of the net. Signal Hill, meanwhile, learned from mistakes made last year having lost to Pleasantville in the girls Intercol final (2-0) as well.
"We were familiar with the players on the team. Everybody knew who they had to mark, what they have to do in order to come out with the victory," said Campbell, who also thanked the team's staff and her Signal Hill school.
