Two men were in custody up to late yesterday, after a 60-year-old sergeant assigned to the Transit Police was shot dead during a hunting trip. The suspects, one from Darling Street in Chaguanas and the other from Temple Street in Gran Couva, reportedly told police that they mistook Jairam Tookai for a deer.
ccording to police, Sookdeo, of Chickland Village, Upper Carapichaima, was hunting with friends on an estate in Gran Couva, around 1.30 pm, when the incident occurred. It was reported that Sookdeo left the group and went ahead on his own. Police said they were told during that time shots were fired at what was believed to be a deer. Sookdeo was found dead in a pool of blood. Investigations are continuing.
