Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales has called on the management of TTPOST to resolve issues affecting workers.
The urgent request by the minister came after several days of protest by employees.
The T&T Postal Workers Union (TTPWU) also delivered a letter to the CPO (Chief Personnel Officer) demanding the implementation of a 2011 job evaluation. The evaluation included recommendations for an 18.6 per cent increase in salaries.
Speaking at a handing-over ceremony for 38 motorcycles and other computer equipment at the National Mail Centre, Golden Grove, Piarco yesterday, Minster Gonzales said the workers had the right to have their issues raised by their union.“These concerns must be addressed, that is my position,” he said.
Minister Gonzales then turned his attention to the TTPOST management and asked them, “to work with the union and work with all of the workers of the union to come to consensus on very serious matters impacting workers of the corporation.”
He reminded the TTPOST management that workers played a very important role, just as the motorcycles, scanners and other infrastructure.
“We must address the concerns of human beings,” he said.
He added that if the workers were uncomfortable or if they felt as though their issues were not being addressed then the public will be impacted.
Minister Gonzales also said the CPO and the Ministry of Public Utilities also had roles to play in bringing forth a resolution and they will sit around the table to ensure this is done.
“This is not ole talk. If you know my history and you listen to me, I don’t have time for foolishness, I don’t have time for ole talk. I will be brutally frank with you on that,” he said.
As it relates to the motorcycles and other computer equipment, Minster Gonzales said they would play their help to improve the level of service of the corporation to the public.
