Police are probing the murder of a 47-year-old man, whose body was found at a recreation ground in El Dorado yesterday. This incident was one of six murders which occurred from Saturday morning to Sunday.
A police report stated that around 5.45 am, officers were on patrol when they were alerted to a man seen lying motionless at the Honeymoon Recreation Ground at College Road.
When officers arrived, they saw the man, identified as Leslie Ramdial, in the pavilion with a wound to the right side of his face in the area of the cheek. Police said it appeared as though the 47-year-old man was chopped to death. The T-shirt Ramdial was wearing was covered in blood.
Police said Ramdial had no fixed place of abode and was described by people in the area as a street dweller.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene and officers from the Homicide Bureau were called in.
Passerby fails to stop man’s murder
Homicide investigators are trying to determine the motive for the killing of a 63-year-old man in Pleasantville.
Officers said around 12.30 yesterday morning, Victor Williams of Union Hall, San Fernando, was exiting a vehicle, when he was accosted by two armed men.
However, another motorist, who saw the commotion as he was driving by, drove his car in the direction of the assailants, causing them to run. The motorist then drove to the Mon Repos Police Station where he reported the incident.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Williams on the ground. The 63-year-old had been shot dead.
Fyzabad man shot dead
Police have asked for anyone with information regarding the murder of a Fyzabad man to come forward.
Investigators believe Darren Young, 38, of Colley Street Fyzabad, was killed on Friday, hours before his body was found on Saturday morning.
Police said officers were told that the body of a man was seen on the ground at Dubarry Street Extension, Fyzabad around 9 am on Saturday.
Upon checking, they found Young, who had been shot in the head and neck.
Relatives told police said they last saw him at home around 2 pm Friday and were worried when he did not return home later that evening.
Police, bandits in Tortuga shoot-out
A search is on for three suspects who engaged in a shoot-out with police.
Police reports said that around noon on Saturday, police officers of the St Margaret’s Police Station responded to a report of a robbery at a business place in Gasparillo. They were told the three suspects were in a vehicle headed to Tortuga. Officers drove along Cedar Hill Road, Tortuga where they spotted the vehicle with the suspects.
Investigators said upon seeing the officers in the marked police vehicle, two suspects exited the getaway car and opened fire on the officers. The two officers returned fire, in accordance with the TTPS’ use of force policy.
The suspects then fled into the bushy area as the officers called for backup.
When other police officers arrived they began an extensive search for the suspects, who appeared to have eluded the officers.
The getaway vehicle, which was abandoned, was taken to the San Fernando Police Station for processing.
The officers were unharmed.
