Bruceon­th­eloose is my nap se­lec­tion to win to­day's fea­ture $100,000 purse Starlight Stakes over 1,350 me­tres at San­ta Rosa Park in Ari­ma. Lead­ing rid­er, Bri­an Hard­ing will again be in the sad­dle and should have an arm-chair ride, with none of his ri­vals seem­ing­ly able to of­fer any chal­lenges. Last time out in the Ari­ma Race Club Cup, the John O'Brien trained, roan colt tast­ed de­feat for the first time in this coun­try, when go­ing un­der to the Glenn Mendez-trained Cac­tus Amour.

Bruceon­th­eloose, Horse of The Year 2009, will be go­ing in­to the race with two 'bul­let' work­outs, the fi­nal be­ing over 600, where he record­ed a time of 34 sec­onds for the run. Clear­ly, with his ARC Cup run un­der his belt, Bruceon­th­eloose is now at con­cert pitch for the main event and should turn it in­to a pro­ces­sion. Though tot­ing top-weight of 56.5 ki­los, the Tres Ami­gos-owned horse will have lit­tle dif­fi­cul­ty in win­ning the $60,000 first prize cheque.

O'Brien's Rag­ing Ha­lo looks to have the mea­sure of the field in the Stakes and Low­er event over 1,700 me­tres on the turf. The colt ran a big race af­ter a lay-off in the ARC Cup and this race looks tai­lor-made for him. He will have to fend off a strong chal­lenge from Brick­yard Cross­ing of the Har­ri­ram Gob­in barn which has been gal­lop­ing su­perbly on the turf and is ex­pect­ed to de­liv­er.

Sta­ble­mate Chief Com­man­der could fin­ish third. Post time for the first event is 12.15 pm.
