West Indies women's captain Merissa Aguilleira thinks that her team can win the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) Challenge in Potchefstroom, South Africa next month. Aguilleira said yesterday: "We have worked very hard and going into that tournament in South Africa we are being viewed as one of the top teams and we intend not to disappoint."
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) released the names of the players last week and included in the squad are two new comers in the form of Sabrina Munroe and Pearl Etienne. Aguilleira believes that the duo will quickly bridge the gap and do well in international cricket. "Obviously just coming in they would lack experience but having played cricket on the regional circuit they would be able to handle themselves at the
higher level.
"We have a very tight unit and they would feel most welcome around the girls. They deserve their pick and w e are hoping for the best for them." The team will assemble in Barbados on August 23 and will host a camp prior to their departure on October 2 for South Africa.
Aguilleira continued: "Our batting and fielding should be our strength in South Africa and we are looking forward to a very good camp in Barbados, where we intend to work very hard on all aspects of our game before we leave."
