Male Model is worth a second glance for the Maiden Stakes over seven furlongs at Redcar today. Many were impressed with his debut effort. That was 13 days ago, when this Iffraaj colt finished third, beaten just over a length by Custom House over a smilar distance on Kempton polytrack. Between them was odds-on favourite, Buckland. Male Model was well-backed and looked in need of the experience, according to paddock watchers.
A reproduction of that time-handicap performance should suffice and yet, it stands to reason he'll improve, perhaps considerably.
It's unlikely Male Model will run up against a 'mystery' at this Northern venue. The rest of this eight-race programme looks difficult but Florestan's Match should solve the Maiden stakes over five furlongs of Kempyton polytrack. What beats Ralph Beckett's charge will surely win.
Florestan's Match was due to run last week, taken out but apparently, there was no serious problem and on my time-handicap, it's just a question of getting a clear run and accelerating clear.
Jim Crowley is riding with tremendous confidence and I'll bet he gets the job done. Also at this evening fixture, Touch Tone is nailed each-way for the eight-runner, all-aged handicap over seven furlongs. Three places are a perfect situation but make sure all are declared to run, before venturing forth!
