Laventille community comes together to help promote the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival through creative design, support from local businesses.Within one week of the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival launch, schoolchildren in the community of Laventille are getting an opportunity to express their creativity by working closely with organisers to assist with the promotion of the festival. In conjunction with branding agency Abovegroup, the Coconut Grower's Association (CGA Ltd), a manufacturing company based in Laventille, donated their entire wall space (approximately 500 feet) which extends along the Eastern Main Road to make room for festival posters and wall art.
On September 28, approximately 20 students from the Success Laventille Composite School had the opportunity to explore art and creative freedom by spray-painting and putting up posters on the wall. These students explored their artistic and creative abilities while contributing to the festival's initiatives. "Nothing good really comes out of Laventille so I'm glad that the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival is allowing us to put up posters on the wall here in Laventille." says a student in Form 5 from Success Laventille Composite School.
"This community involvement is a positive step in challenging the negative stigma associated with Laventille.?Having the support of a large and influential company is refreshing and will set a great standard for other communities and business" says Alex Smailes, director of Abovegroup. Abovegroup's guerrilla marketing agency, aG, has been working on strategies to promote the festival and increase its brand presence. From the I Love Film posters seen along the walls of Port-of-Spain's hot spots to the designed doubles bags seen at almost every vendor in the city, Abovegroup's initiatives are building on their 2009 rebranding of the TTFF and is already creating a stir throughout the country. The festival runs until October 5.
