Ahmed Edoo, son of former Ombudsman and retired judge George Edoo, has been shot dead. Edoo, 55, of Kenneth Drive, Gopaul Lands, Marabella died just before midnight on Thursday. Police said he was shot at point blank range in the back of the head. Edoo's wallet was missing and his car was unlocked at the time.
Investigators said they received a call around 11.45 pm that a man was seen slumped dead behind the wheel of his pick up. The vehicle was parked at Tarouba Road. Police said Edoo's car was drenched in blood and there was a gaping hole at the back of his head.
Relatives said that Edoo attended Mosque and while heading home he was gunned down. Although robbery has not been ruled out, investigators said that Edoo's killing may well have been a hit. Police said over the past few weeks, Edoo had been at the centre of a feud involving ownership of a Mosque at Marabella.
Sources said there was an attempt by a group of Muslims from Port-of-Spain to take control of the Mosque. This led senior officials from Asja to issue a statement that the mosque belonged to Asja. The official indicated that Asja Imams would lead worship at the Mosque. Relatives described Edoo as a very religious man. Neighbours said that Edoo was a pleasant but private person. His wife Shereen Mohammed, who was separated from him, could not be reached for comment.
An autopsy was conduced on Edoo's body yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre which revealed that he died from shock and haemorrhage consistent with a gunshot wound to the head. Edoo's funeral took place yesterday.
Sgt Peter Ramdeen of the San Fernando Homicide Bureau is the investigating officer.
