Nicholas Pooran and Khary Pierre were on top of their game yesterday, leading Queen's Park Cricket Club to the T&T Cricket Board Three-Day title with an emphatic victory over T&T Prisons Service at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain.
Knowing a victory would seal the league title, the Parkites romped to victory by an innings and 41 runs on day two in the last round against Prisons and now holds an unassailable lead. The three-day title completed a clean sweep for Queen's Park, as the club won the T20 and 50-over titles earlier this season.
Resuming on 241/5 in the first innings yesterday, Queen's Park declared on 320/7 a lead of 180 runs. Left-handed Pooran, who started the day on 57 not out ended on an unbeaten 103. Pooran struck 11 sixes and four fours in his 48-ball knock. He was ably supported by Tion Webster who cracked 51 off 30 deliveries with five fours and three sixes. Vikash Rampersad was the top bowler for Prisons grabbing 4/65.
Prisons struggled at the crease again, dismissed for 139 to hand Queen's Park the title. Khary Pierre, who grabbed 5/40 in the first innings, continued his top form taking 3/44 to end the match with eight wickets. Barbadian fast bowler Miguel Cummins snatched 4/51, while left arm spinner Akeal Hosein snared 2/20. Mike Smith and Denzil James fought hard for Prisons scoring 46 and 42 respectively but their efforts were in vain.
