T&T's Aaron Wilson captured the Junior Boys Singles gold medal at the Cadet and Junior Caribbean Regional Table-Tennis Federation Championship, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, yesterday.
In the finals, Wilson who got silver last year stopped Sebastien Echevarria 12-10, 11-9, 11-4, 6-11, 11-6.
Earlier on in the semifinals, the T&T ace came from behind to defeat Ivan Vargas of Puerto Rico 5-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, 3-11, 11-8 while Echevarria dumped Eric Gonzales 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-3.
On Saturday in the quarterfinals, Wilson overcame Carlos Guzman 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.
However, fellow T&T player and member of the Junior Boys squad which won team silver, Arun Roopnarine had his run ended in the last-eight after going under to Sebastien Echevarria 7-11, 6-11, 11-8, 7-11.
In the Cadet Boys, Luc O'Young and Joshua Maxwell reached the last eight
Overall T&T ended with one gold, one silver and six bronze medals, three bronze in the team and three bronze in doubles apiece.
In junior boys, the pairs of Wilson/Roopnarine and Shaquille Mitchell/ Benoni Daniel, and Joshua Maxwelll/Luc O'Young each won bronze in doubles.
