Right-handed batsman Jesse Roland, 26, is Glenora Sports Club's Cricketer of the Year for 2014. At Friday's awards ceremony and dinner held at the President's Box at the Queen's Park Oval on Tragarete Road in Port-of-Spain, he walked away with ten awards for his outstanding performances at the close of the season.
Aaron Francois, Iqwe Craig, Stefon Bissoon and Christopher Sargeant were also nominated for the overall award, but it was Roland's consistency that gave him the edge.
Having scored the most first team runs of 219 in 40 over competition with half centuries against Sweet Revenge with 68 and 81 in the match up against Ebony, were among the performances that set him apart.
Meanwhile, his teammate Bissoon had the honour of recording the highest first team individual score of 132 against Ranga. He was named the Most Improved Player and also copped the Best Fielder award.
Christopher Sargeant was honoured for taking 44 wickets. He also had the best strike rate of 13.11 runs per wicket.
The reserve team had its list of achievers, too.
Reveal Ramnarine, was named Cricketer of the Year (Reserve Team), while Zia Baksh emerged as the Most Disciplined Player. The award for the Most Promising Batsman went to Isaiah Ali. Darius Gopaul was the Most Promising Bowler.
It was the first time he had the honour of taking the spotlight to receive this award and he declared the feeling as "great!" Scoring a century (125 runs) against Ebony, as well as, his 125 not out against Harvard were among his most memorable moments on the field last season. A year before he was 121 not out against Harvard Club.
"It feels awesome. It feels really good breaking the last score of 121."
Virat Kohli was his favourite international cricketer. "How he bats. How he plays shots," Roland said.
Cricket, however, was not Roland's primary sport, but his only sport. He started playing since age five and declared that he loved the game.
"Cricket is everything for me. I love hitting sixes."
He declared that he was proud of his club and team-mates.
What set Glenora Sports Club apart from the rest, he said, was the quality of its management systems which redounded to the benefit of the players and their eventual top performance.
Glenora stalwart Myron James shared Roland's view of the club. The former cricketer lauded the youths that have made the club their own with results that made him proud.
James was no older than 14 when he entered the club.
Saluting the continued legacy of Glenora Sport Club, James credited Winston Sobers for keeping the outfit energised.
"It takes a lot out of you to get things running. I think Mr Sobers deserves a round of applause," he said.
