Jamaica have included six United States-based players in their squad to face Trinidad and Tobago in the first of two friendlies at the Catherine Hall Complex, Montego Bay from 9.30 pm T&T time tonight.
German head coach Winfred Schafer has recalled Darren Mattocks of Vancouver Whitecaps, teammate of T&T defender Carlyle Mitchell, Je-Vaughn Watson (FC Dallas), Deshorn Brown (Colorado Rapids), Jason Johnson (Houston Dynamo), Michael Seaton (DC United) Omar Daley (Minnesota United) and Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers). The rest of the squad includes home-based players including Keammar Daley of Tivoli Gardens
Both teams last met in a friendly in 2010 with the "Reggae Boyz" coming away 3-1 winners at the Marvin Lee Stadium and this time T&T wants to settle the score before returning to Port of Spain for the November 19th friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
"We haven't beaten them in some time," said Stoke City forward Kenwyne Jones who is the T&T captain.
"They made it into the final round of World Cup qualification and they are now in a rebuilding stage like we are but both teams will want to come out on top so I expect the game to be entertaining and competitive at the same time. We will be looking to continue on our recent run of form, coming from the Gold Cup and the Saudi Arabia matches," Jones added.
T&T head coach Stephen Hart added, "Yesterday was our first session with all seventeen players but I won't make that too much of a factor. We are here to play and we will go into the game with a positive mindset. Most of the players are on board with what we are trying to do and we are just trying to build off every camp.
"We are preparing for the future and a big part of that is just an understanding of the attitude required during training and the understanding of what we are trying to do tactically and technically in each game. And most of the players have some games under their belt under me so it's just a matter of how well we adapt to the conditions of the game," Hart said.
The birthday boy in the T&T camp at the Hilton Hotel, Ataulla Guerra, who turned 26 on Thursday, is hoping to have a strong run at the "Reggae Boyz".
"I'm grateful for what I have. I am doing what I enjoy and it's always a blessing to be with the national team. I hope I can play some part tomorrow and help us take home the win. Every game is one where we are building and learning. But winning is important too for me," Guerra said.
Jamaica's Schafer, who led the team to a 2-2 draw with Honduras in their final 2014 World Cup qualifier last month, wants to win his first game at the helm of the "Reggae Boyz".
"We are preparing for the future and this is the start of our 'Road to Russia' 2018 campaign. We are looking at some new players. We have called some players from the United States. Of course we want to get a good performance and a good result in this match with Trinidad and Tobago," Schafer added.
Tickets for Tuesday's friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium are priced at $100 (covered), $75 (uncovered) and are available at Kenny Sport Shops, Fan Club (Movietowne POS and Gulf City) Rammsingh's Sportworld, All Out Restaurant, Trotters Restaurant, More Vino, and the Tobago FA office.
