Deon Lendore sped to a new personal best in the men's 400 metres event when he clocked 46.76 seconds at the 2012 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas, USA on Friday.
The Texas A&M University quarter-miler achieved the time on his home track as he topped the 400m heats improving on the 47.21 set at the Texas A&M Invitational on February 11. The 2011 Pan American Junior double silver medallist took heat three and is now ranked at 36th on the latest 2012 IAAF World indoor ranking in the event. World Indoor selectees Lalonde Gordon (19th-46.43), Jarrin Solomon (24th-46.55) and Renny Quow (32nd-46.70) are ahead of Lendore with Zwede Hewitt (76th-47.18) behind the Queen's Royal College graduate. Hewitt was disqualified in the heats. Hewitt (Baylor) later returned to book his spot in the 200m finals after he finished fifth in the preliminaries in a personal best time of 21.19. Lendore's teammate Wayne Davis II is also in the finals of men's 60m hurdles taking fourth in the heats in 7.84. Dellon Williams (Texas Tech) was eighth in the men's long jump finals with a leap of 7.09, well below his 2012 best of 7.60.
