T&T's Shaquille Roberts was among 20 young lead­ers se­lect­ed from across the globe to run on day 41 of the Olympic torch re­lay in Not­ting­ham, Eng­land last Sat­ur­day. The re­lay start­ed at 11.40 am lo­cal time (4.40 pm Eng­land time) and trav­elled through the fol­low­ing com­mu­ni­ties: Lin­coln, Sax­il­by, Darl­ton, East Markham, Tux­ford, Kir­ton, Boughton, Ed­win­stowe, Mans­field, Kel­ham, Newark-on-Trent, Balder­ton, Bel­ton House, Grantham, Rad­cliffe-on-Trent, Not­ting­ham and West Bridg­ford.

Roberts was among the 20 young­sters who were se­lect­ed from the Lon­don Or­gan­is­ing Com­mit­tee of the Olympic Games' In­ter­na­tion­al In­spi­ra­tion pro­gramme. In­ter­na­tion­al In­spi­ra­tion is Lon­don 2012's in­ter­na­tion­al lega­cy pro­gramme which pro­vides sport and play op­por­tu­ni­ties to over 12 mil­lion chil­dren in 20 coun­tries around the world. The young lead­ers re­lay group ran in two teams of ten in Rad­cliffe-on-Trent and Not­ting­ham. A to­tal of over 30 torch­bear­ers car­ried the torch through the city cen­tre. Olympic ice skat­ing cham­pi­ons and Not­ting­ham leg­ends Jayne Torvill and Christo­pher Dean, were the last torch bear­ers of the day. They per­formed a spe­cial­ly chore­o­graphed rou­tine with the torch in hand at Not­tingam's Ice Are­na, be­fore they light­ing the Olympic caul­dron in Old Mar­ket Square at the evening cel­e­bra­tion at 6.55 pm (Eng­lish time).
