A shoot­ing in Diego Mar­tin on Sat­ur­day evening has left one man dead and an­oth­er wound­ed. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 6.30 pm, Ja­son Singh, 32, of Riv­er Es­tate, Diego Mar­tin, and Ed­ward Fontaine, of Ma­son Street, Diego Mar­tin, were walk­ing in Green Hill, Diego Mar­tin, when they were ap­proached by a gun­man. Sev­er­al shots were heard by res­i­dents who alert­ed po­lice. Up­on in­ves­ti­ga­tions, po­lice dis­cov­ered Singh and Fontaine ly­ing on the road­way suf­fer­ing from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds.

Both men were tak­en to the St James Med­ical Fa­cil­i­ty where Singh died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency surgery. Fontaine was trans­ferred to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where up to late yes­ter­day evening he was ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion. Po­lice say the area of Green Hill where the men were at­tacked is well known for drug and crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty. Homi­cide de­tec­tives are yet to es­tab­lish a mo­tive for the shoot­ing. Singh's mur­der pushed the homi­cide toll for the year to 290 and raised the num­ber of peo­ple mur­dered since the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the state of emer­gency on Au­gust 21 to 21.
