For centuries, mysterious stories of Atlantis, the Bermuda Triangle and the Fountain of Youth have fascinated historians, adventurers and conspiracy theorists.
Now, local companies Total Chaos Productions and Islands Films are officially producing a captivating feature film, A Passage to Atlantis, aimed at bringing those mysteries together in a bold Caribbean adventure.
Writer and director Paul Banseelal, known in the industry as Paul B, said the 13-member production team is expected to conclude the million-dollar production in September, with the film expected to be released in cinemas in November.
“It’s a thought-provoking experience that will leave the audience in question of scientific theories and historical beliefs,” said Paul B, a veteran stage producer and television creator.
Filmed in Trinidad and Tobago, the team believes the two-and-a-half-hour film is poised to put Caribbean filmmaking on the international stage with a story designed to surprise audiences worldwide.
Paul B said they anticipate that the film will be released throughout the Caribbean, submitted to major film festivals and presented to major networks. He explained that plans to make a feature film rather than a documentary were made four years ago, but his research into Atlantis and the other topics has been ongoing for three decades.
With a cast of 41 actors, he said, “The film genre being adventure fiction, gives real information about Atlantis location, their people, and the happenings of the Bermuda Triangle, and Hollow Earth. There are two love stories, comedy, and action scenes that produce a well balance script. Scenery, romance life and relationships.”
In a press release, the company said Paul B’s passion for history, mythology and Caribbean mysteries has driven more than 35 years of research into the true location of Atlantis.
“Known for local stage productions including A Window to The Past, and most recently A Deal with Darkness at the Naparima Bowl, Paul B now brings a cinematic adventure blending historical facts, ancient legends, Caribbean mysteries, and thrilling fiction into one unforgettable story.”
Giving a brief summary of the film, the company said it explores the connections that link Atlantis, the Bermuda Triangle, Hollow Earth legends and the Fountain of Youth, uncovering clues hidden within the Caribbean islands for centuries.
“Inspired by theories surrounding Christopher Columbus’ voyages and mysterious ancient maps, the story follows a group of university students who uncover secrets capable of changing world history forever. With a script carefully written to combine intelligent research with suspense, mystery, and adventure.”
Promising an exciting journey, the company said audiences will be shocked when the hidden location of Atlantis is finally revealed.
B described the production as “the most intellectually stimulating movie produced in the Caribbean,” blending legend and science, and factual incidents, into one unforgettable cinematic journey.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Caribbean, the company said the story begins with the westward voyage of Christopher Columbus.
“The film proposes a fascinating theory that Columbus possessed a mysterious map pointing not towards the East in search of spices, but west to the hidden location of Atlantis itself, somewhere beneath Caribbean waters.
“Centuries later, five university students discover an ancient map hidden behind a 300-year-old owl painting originating from an East Indian exposition. Believing the artefact may be connected to forgotten history, they bring it to their university professor, only to uncover a shocking secret. The professor possesses a mysterious diary left to him by his grandfather, who claimed he once journeyed to Atlantis and was sent back by an underground resistance to reveal the truth of their hidden civilisation to the world. Inside the diary is a duplicate of the same ancient map.”
Together, a team of professors and researchers launch an expedition to a tiny Caribbean island believed to hold the entrance to all four mysteries. Joined by the five students, the expedition then races to uncover two ancient diaries that may reveal the true location of the hidden world beneath the Caribbean.
The production team welcomes financial support and partnerships from private investors, businesses, sponsors and supporters interested in becoming part of this fascinating project.
