In any concert or fete, the spotlight naturally falls on the performers who set the mood and keep patrons dancing. But for many attendees, the experience wouldn’t be complete without the bartenders and mixologists whose creativity shines through in the drinks they serve.
Recognising this, Amrit Permanand, owner of D Wooden Counter, along with co-founder Kevon Felix, has never aimed to simply pour drinks in a stylish way. Instead, their goal is to craft a memorable experience in every cup and glass.
While high-energy concerts and Carnival fetes usually dominate their calendar, Permanand said he’s noticed a growing demand from corporate clients. And though the atmosphere at these events—marked by suited executives and formal settings—differs drastically from the exuberance of a Carnival lime, he insisted the same level of flair, finesse, and professionalism is brought to every event.
Reflecting on his first corporate booking, Permanand said catering to a new type of clientele forced him to evolve.
“It really pushed me to grow as a manager,” he said. “You have to understand the environment, the expectations, and how to adapt.”
That insight has helped transform D Wooden Counter’s corporate offerings into a more immersive experience. From cocktails branded specifically for the company or occasion, to fresh fruit carved into custom drink vessels, the visual and sensory impact is key.
“I always saw the business as a learning experience,” Permanand explained. “We all continue to grow and adapt from each job. But the kind of support and interest we’ve received has really motivated us to put our best foot forward.”
He said the biggest difference with corporate events was the opportunity for meaningful interaction.
“It’s not just about pouring a drink and moving on. Sometimes we end up talking to guests about their work, what they’re celebrating, or just sharing a laugh. That connection matters.”
Despite being relatively new to the corporate scene, Permanand is confident the appetite for creative mixology is strong.
“Whether it’s desk clerks or senior executives, everyone enjoys the chance to relax, connect, and try something different.”
And while the drinks may dazzle, he believes the real specialty isn’t found on the menu—it’s in the thoughtful, tailored service delivered to every client, no matter the setting.
