The Fyzabad Chamber of Commerce says it is very concerned about the oil leak flowing into the homes of residents of Massahood Village.
Chamber President, Angie Jairam, said the chamber is worried about the "immediate impact" the spill is having on the health, safety and mental status of the residents, as well as its impact on the economy and the environment.
Jairam told Guardian Media this is the second time an oil spill has occurred in this area within the last nine months. She said, "The Fyzabad Chamber of Commerce is not pleased with the progress of business and the general development of the communities over the years. Considering the impact the crude oil industry had on T&T where Fyzabad played a major role, Fyzabad has and is still suffering from an underdeveloped environment in many ways, one being the road network infrastructure."
She added, "The Chamber hopes that Fyzabad can benefit from the good news from Heritage Petroleum with regards to its $1b profit in the last financial year."
