Legendary reggae singer JC Lodge will perform in T&T on November 1, bringing a wave of nostalgia to local music lovers.
Speaking with Guardian Media, Sean Leonard—better known as DJ Sean—of Gemini Production, the event’s promoter, said the company has been staging international and local shows for more than three decades.
“We just wrapped up Soca Fest at the Brooklyn Museum and in October, for Miami Carnival, we’ll host One Fete with Kes the Band and Sexy N White featuring JC Lodge,” Leonard said. “She’s excited to perform in Trinidad at Carnival City, Gulf City, San Fernando, with reggae anthems like Telephone Love and Someone Loves You, Honey.”
According to Leonard, there has been a strong demand for nostalgic music as fans look to reconnect with the soundtrack of their youth.
“Totally 80s is a concept Gemini Production and DJ Sean created to bring live acts from the 1980s into club settings, breathing new life into old-school parties,” he explained.
“That’s why we’re partnering with Rumors Events, who has been producing Ultimate 80s for 18 years. JC Lodge has already prepared her setlist for Exclusive Summer Totally 80s #2, which we know fans will love. A DJ medley of her songs, mixed by Razorshop Remixes and DJ Sean, will also launch on her social media pages.”
Leonard added that nostalgia is not just a local phenomenon but a global trend.
“There’s worldwide demand for 80s and 90s acts at music and jazz festivals,” he noted. “For more than 20 years, major hits from that era have been sampled and remade by newer artists—think Wyclef’s version of Stayin’ Alive, Puff Daddy’s take on Every Breath You Take, and Ace of Base’s cover of Cruel Summer.”
Looking ahead, Gemini Production is also planning to bring 1980s mega-band Air Supply to T&T in May 2026 for the group’s 50th anniversary concert.
About JC Lodge
Born June Carol Lodge, the British-Jamaican reggae star, now 66, first broke through with Someone Loves You, Honey in 1980—a reggae take on Charley Pride’s 1978 country hit. The song topped the Jamaican charts and earned Lodge gold and platinum discs in the Netherlands, where it became the country’s top-selling single of 1982.
In 1988, she recorded Telephone Love with Shabba Ranks, making history as the first dancehall reggae track to cross over into the U.S. R&B and hip-hop markets. Her catalogue also includes More Than I Can Say, Make It Up, and collaborations with Tiger (Love Me, Baby) and Shabba Ranks (Telephone Love).
