The art ex­hi­bi­tion Kavi­ta The Vi­sion­ary’s Last Gift opened last Sat­ur­day at the Soft Box Gallery on Al­cazar Street in Port-of-Spain. The ex­hi­bi­tion will run from un­til June 6.

Dr Narindra Roop­nar­ine, Par­lia­men­tary Sec­re­tary in the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment, said that Kavi­ta Mon­groo is a self-taught artist.

He ex­plained that her art and sculp­tures re­mind us of how the Caribbean imag­i­na­tion has of­ten been shaped by its his­to­ry, and that her work en­cour­ages peo­ple to dis­cov­er new paths, sto­ries and mem­o­ries by draw­ing on the wis­dom of their an­ces­tors.
