Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege moved three points clos­er to a math­e­mat­i­cal chance of clinch­ing the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion ti­tle of the Shell/First Cit­i­zens Sec­ondary Schools Foot­ball League (SS­FL) with a con­vinc­ing 6-0 vic­to­ry over Queen's Roy­al Col­lege (QRC) at the Man­nie Ramjohn Sta­di­um in Mara­bel­la on Wednes­day.

How­ev­er, Pre­sen­ta­tion coach Shawn Coop­er is less than im­pressed, say­ing all they can do now is try to beat a dif­fi­cult St An­tho­ny's Col­lege team in West­moor­ing on Mon­day, but he does not think Na­pari­ma Col­lege, hav­ing reached so far, will give it away at the fi­nal hur­dle.

"I am not so over­whelmed by us hav­ing to de­pend on QRC beat­ing Na­pari­ma on Mon­day, so it's kind of bit­ter-sweet for us, be­cause, af­ter the last per­for­mance from St An­tho­ny's, I don't think their con­fi­dence will be high."

The Roy­alians, who were with­out five start­ing play­ers for the match af­ter the coach benched them for fail­ing to at­tend a train­ing ses­sion on the Di­vali hol­i­day (Mon­day), were piti­ful on the field and failed to put to­geth­er four or fives pass­es. Their game was summed up by coach Nigel Groves­nor's de­ci­sion to use in­jured first-choice goal­keep­er Jacques Poon-Lewis as a strik­er when he came on as a re­place­ment for Bri­an Arm­strong in the sec­ond half.

The Pre­sen­ta­tion win came cour­tesy a dou­ble strike from Dan­taye Gilbert in the 30th and 58th min­utes.

How­ev­er, it was Markus Ma­son who opened the ac­count for the south­ern­ers af­ter just nine min­utes.

And with the Roy­alians giv­ing very lit­tle to no re­sis­tance in the de­fence, the host fired in its sec­ond goal two min­utes lat­er by Ac­k­eel Ja­cob.

Gilbert sent his team to the half-time in­ter­val with his first item in the 30th.

Af­ter the break, Pre­sen­ta­tion Gilbert col­lect­ed the ball un­chal­lenged in the area and he fired pow­er­ful­ly past Ju­maane Mc Neil in the QRC goal for a 4-0 ad­van­tage, one that they did not let slip.

The Roy­alians mount­ed lit­tle chances and when they did, they were foiled by poor fin­ish­ing. Their most glar­ing chance came iron­i­cal­ly when Poon-Lewis send Re­nal­do Mullings through Pre­sen­ta­tion de­fence, but his at­tempt on goal was de­flect­ed wide.

And mo­ments lat­er Ezekiel Arm­strong drib­bled across the field be­fore be­ing hacked down in the op­po­si­tion area, but de­spite a wav­ing lines­man in an at­tempt to catch the ref­er­ee Ce­cil Hinds' eye to sig­nal the foul, she waved play on.

As play con­tin­ued Pre­sen­ta­tion used the op­por­tu­ni­ty to in­crease its tal­ly to 5-0 when Sha­keem Cop­per, from some 25 yards out, un­leashed a thun­der­ous dri­ve that beat Mc Neil on his right post in the 70th minute.

And af­ter sev­er­al eas­i­ly missed chances for the south­ern­ers, sub­sti­tute Jaiye Shep­pard sealed the win when he tapped in from a goal-mouth scram­ble in the 90th.

The win took Pre­sen­ta­tion to 30 points and in­to the sec­ond po­si­tion, be­hind lead­ers Na­pari­ma on 33 points with one round of match­es to play on Mon­day.

Mean­while, at Fa­ti­ma Ground, East Mu­cu­rapo ham­mered Spey­side 5-0, cour­tesy a dou­ble by Ja­heil Patrick and a goal-apiece from Ja­mali Alex­is, Daniel David and Zion Mc Leod, while at Arou­ca, Cara­pichaima got a hat-trick from Keilon Bur­nette in the 48th, 62nd and 89th min­utes to de­feat Trin­i­ty East 4-2.

In a bot­tom of the ta­ble clash at St Mary's Grounds, St Clair, the home team — CIC went down heav­i­ly 4-0 de­feat to Trin­i­ty Mo­ka which closed out its league cam­paign on a pos­i­tive note de­spite be­ing rel­e­gat­ed along with St Mary's for the 2020 sea­son.
