‘Ewa Afrika 2024 … The Folk Lure” is carded for the Queen’s Hall on June 2 from 5 pm. This prolific showcase of Afro-inspired fashion has garnered phenomenal traction in its three-year history, wooing larger audiences with a plethora of Afrocentric creative excellence from the region. Indeed, it is a Caribbean presentation of runway collections by the best designers paying homage to our African traditions and our Afro-Caribbean style.
The production is staged by the Emancipation Support Committee of T&T under
the masterful creative direction of fashion impresario Richard Young.
The event is part of the largest Pan-African festival outside the African continent and “boasts of eclectic, exotic and ethnic interpretations of our African Diasporic fashion identity with Afro-futurist forecasts for our New World style ego. It’s all part of proclaiming our Caribbean aesthetic to the world, unapologetically,” Richard Young enthuses.
Two of the country’s leading brands will be part of the ‘Folk Lure’, alongside a force of the fashion industry movers and shakers. Both design houses have demonstrated their prowess in the 21st-century Caribbean fashion zeitgeist, having earned the prestigious master Caribbean designer award at the trailblazing Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, both brands have made indelible and incomparable footprints for Caribbean fashion the world over.
The show promises to be an extravaganza, chock-full of rich performing talent in a theatrical spectacular hosted by Abeo Jackson and Conrad Parris.
