Energy Minister Stuart Young and bpTT President David Campbell toured the ‘Seven Seas,’ on Monday.
The 'Seven Seas' is a pipe-laying vessel, which is currently supporting the development of bpTT’s Cypre Project in Trinidad and Tobago.
The vessel, which is currently docked at the ChagTerms dock in Chaguaramas, is undertaking ‘transpooling’ activity related to subsea infrastructure installation that will connect gas from the Cypre field to bpTT’s Juniper platform off Trinidad’s southeast coast.
Paul Stern, projects general manager of bpTT and Giselle Thompson, vice president, communications and external affairs, bpTT were also present at the vessel tour.
The Cypre project will become bpTT’s third subsea development in Trinidad and Tobago. The project will include seven wells and subsea trees tied back into bpTT’s existing Juniper platform with gas production projected for 2025.
Cypre forms part of bpTT’s strategy of maximizing production from its existing infrastructure, identifying innovative solutions to bring gas to the market faster. First gas is expected in 2025.
During the tour, Young met with a number of T&T nationals working alongside the vessel’s international crew.
Among these persons were survey technicians, ‘motor-men,’ a survey advisor, ‘medic’ and a remotely operated vehicle (R.O.V.) operator.
Young also met three local cadets receiving practical training on-board the vessel, as part of the sea-service component of the University of Trinidad and Tobago’s Diploma in Maritime Operations.
Young said the strong representation of T&T’s maritime industry and local content on-board the vessel and stated that the government will continue to work with energy sector stakeholders to create opportunities such as these that will build local capacity and drive T&T’s international competitiveness.
In a news release in February this year to mark the first well spud in the development, bpTT president David Campbell said: “Following the successful delivery of our small pools drilling programme, we are pleased to see the safe and efficient retooling and relocation of the Valaris Joe Douglas rig to the Cypre field. Cypre is a significant investment for bpTT to continue to maintain production and the start of the drilling programme is an important step in the Cypre project.
"Our objective is to bring natural gas into production safely and as quickly as possible - I’m proud that we are doing just that, having sanctioned Cypre soon after our meeting with Prime Minister Rowley in London in Q3 2022, we have quickly progressed our planning and are already drilling our first well.”
