China is eager to share its agricultural strategies with Trinidad and Tobago.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Hua Chunying has said the country would be willing to introduce Juncao technology to this country.

Juncao is a hybrid grass that is an important multi-functional agricultural resource as its leaves, stems and roots can be used for different kinds of ecological management including soil erosion control and desertification prevention.

“We would be very glad to work with Trinidad and Tobago  and maybe some other Caribbean countries to advance Juncao corporation and promote agriculture technology cooperation in this region. Such we think of organising technological training, training local experts and establishing technology bases and centres,” said Chunying at the National Library in Port-of-Spain yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago’s has enjoyed a significant trade and development relationship with China in recent years, particularly since it signed on to the Belt and Road Initiative in 2018. The agreement has led to significant Chinese investment and construction of infrastructure backed by financing offered by the government of China.

In February, Chinese Summit (TT) Luggage Co became the first tenant at eTecK’s Phoenix Park Industrial Estate, while other Chinese companies are expected to follow.

Minister Chunying confirmed the Chinese government was eager to fuel development in countries like Trinidad and Tobago.

“The global development initiative President Xi Jinping has put forward is precisely to achieving this goal by promoting cooperation in areas such as poverty reduction, food security, pandemic response, development financing, climate change, industrialisation, digital economy and the digital era connectivity,” she said, “China is ready to work with Trinidad and Tobago and other Caribbean countries to implement the GDI and make full use of all the funds available to achieve common development and prosperity. The success story of Chinese modernisation can be an inspiration for fellow developing countries and I believe if China can succeed you can succeed.”
