The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC)yesterday announced its platinum sponsorship of the 7th edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) to be hosted in T&T from August 4 to 11, 2023.

In a news release, NGC said its partnership as platinum sponsor with the CYG is an extension of the company’s longstanding commitment to develop sport in Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking at the media launch of the CYG 2023, Head Corporate Social Responsibility at NGC, Myles Lewis, shared the company’s hope for the Games: “NGC sees the Commonwealth Youth Games as an important catalyst for the sporting stars and leaders of tomorrow, contributing to the further development of youth sport throughout the Caribbean and the Commonwealth.

“We hope these games resonate not just in Trinidad and Tobago but throughout the Commonwealth and the world. This sponsorship is not just an investment for NGC. It is a signal of our dedication to our partners, our young people, our athletes, and our country.”

Trinidad and Tobago was awarded the honour of hosting the 7th edition of the CYG, which was supposed to take place in 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the Games, but all is set for the competition to kick off this August.

For the first time, this year the Games will feature para-athletics events. Inaugurated in 2000 as a platform to help talented young athletes across the Commonwealth transition from junior to senior level competition, the CYG has been a flagship sporting event that has helped launch the careers of many professional sportsmen and women. Events include athletics, cycling, swimming, netball, rugby, triathlon and volleyball.

Over 70 countries, 1,000 athletes and 500 officials will take part in these games.
