The Min­istry of Pub­lic Ad­min­is­tra­tion and Ar­ti­fi­cial In­tel­li­gence (MPAAI), has an­nounced its par­tic­i­pa­tion in the glob­al 50-in-5 cam­paign.

In a re­lease on yes­ter­day, the Min­istry said, “This trans­for­ma­tive ini­tia­tive which is aimed at de­vel­op­ing Dig­i­tal Pub­lic In­fra­struc­ture (DPI) in a safe, in­clu­sive, and seam­less man­ner.

“The 50-in-5 ini­tia­tive is a glob­al col­lab­o­ra­tion that pro­motes in­ter­na­tion­al co­op­er­a­tion and the ex­change of best prac­tices and tech­nolo­gies. Its goal is for 50 coun­tries to de­sign, im­ple­ment and scale at least one com­po­nent of their DPI with­in five years.”

As part of the ini­tia­tive T&T will join a grow­ing coali­tion of for­ward-think­ing na­tions, in­clud­ing Bangladesh, Es­to­nia, Ja­maica, Malawi, Nor­way, Sin­ga­pore, and Zam­bia.

At the 50-in-5 Mile­stone Event on Sep­tem­ber 22, 2025, Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Ad­min­is­tra­tion and Ar­ti­fi­cial In­tel­li­gence, Sen­a­tor Do­minic Smith, said, “The pri­or­i­ties of T&T’s dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion are clear: all gov­ern­ment ser­vices on­line, ef­fi­cien­cy and cost sav­ings in pub­lic ad­min­is­tra­tion, and the cre­ation of a tru­ly dig­i­tal na­tion.”

T&T will ex­plore the im­ple­men­ta­tion of sev­er­al key DPI com­po­nents, in­clud­ing:

• A Na­tion­al Dig­i­tal Iden­ti­ty Sys­tem to pro­vide cit­i­zens with se­cure ac­cess to gov­ern­ment ser­vices on­line;

• An e-Gov­ern­ment Por­tal to stream­line ac­cess to pub­lic ser­vices and ap­pli­ca­tion sub­mis­sions; and

• A Dig­i­tal Pay­ment Sys­tem to en­able elec­tron­ic trans­ac­tions for tax­es and gov­ern­ment ser­vices.

The Min­istry re­lease said, “In­vest­ing in Dig­i­tal Pub­lic In­fra­struc­ture means build­ing a fu­ture where every cit­i­zen and busi­ness can thrive. DPI will de­liv­er in­clu­sive ser­vices, re­silient sys­tems, and new op­por­tu­ni­ties while strength­en­ing so­cial pro­tec­tion, fi­nan­cial in­clu­sion, food se­cu­ri­ty, cli­mate re­silience, and eco­nom­ic par­tic­i­pa­tion.”

The min­istry said it was com­mit­ted to ac­cel­er­at­ing dig­i­tal trans­for­ma­tion through in­no­va­tion and ad­vanc­ing progress to­ward the Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment Goals (SDGs) via this ini­tia­tive.
