Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young, left, and Development Manager, Lightsource bp UK and Trinidad & Tobago Francis Mann met yesterday to discuss the progress of the Project Lara solar parks.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young yesterday met with Francis Mann, Lightsource bp Development Manager, UK and Trinidad & Tobago to discuss the current status of Project Lara where the parties currently involved are in the finalisation of the commercial agreement for this project.

According to a release from the Energy Ministry yesterday, discussions also surrounded the completion and execution of the documentation by the end of this month.

Project Lara is a joint venture comprised of multi-national energy giants bp and Shell, and specialist solar energy company Lightsource bp.

“The project will be constructed at two sites in both Brechin Castle, near the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and in Orange Grove, near Trincity. The two sites will have a combined capacity to generate a total of 112.2 mw of solar electricity, more than the total generating capacity of most islands in the Eastern Caribbean,” the release stated.

“The Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago through the work of Minister Young and the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries remains committed in its pursuit of the use of renewables in the energy mix. The integration of more solar projects allows Trinidad and Tobago to do its part towards global Greenhouse Gas Reduction,” it stated.
