1 arrested, arms, drugs seized during anti-crime exercises

One man was ar­rest­ed and two firearms and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis were seized dur­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es in the South­ern and North East­ern Di­vi­sions be­tween Thurs­day and yes­ter­day.

In a re­lease, the TTPS said in the lat­est in­ci­dent, Task Force of­fi­cers in the South­ern Di­vi­sion con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise around 12.30 am yes­ter­day, where they ini­tial­ly at­tempt­ed to in­ter­cept a ve­hi­cle in Clax­ton Bay.

How­ev­er, the dri­ver al­leged­ly re­fused to stop, re­sult­ing in a high-speed chase which even­tu­al­ly end­ed along the Ca­roni Sa­van­nah Road. Of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly searched the ve­hi­cle and found .2 kilo­grammes of cannabis hid­den in the trunk.

The sus­pect, a 43-year-old Mor­vant man, was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Mean­while, of­fi­cers found a Beretta pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 15 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion in a bushy area at El Car­men Road dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in the San­ta Cruz be­tween 5 am and 9 am on Thurs­day.

A pel­let gun was al­so found in Up­per San­ta Cruz and a quan­ti­ty of cannabis dis­cov­ered along Sad­dle Road, San Juan.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in­to the above mat­ters.

The op­er­a­tion was spear­head­ed by act­ing Snr Supt Car­ty, Supt Birch and ASP Cal­len­dar and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers of the San­ta Cruz 2 Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID), the San Juan CID, North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the Ca­nine Branch.
