In a series of recent anti-crime operations across T&T, the T&T Police Service (TTPS) arrested 12 suspects and seized several firearms and a significant quantity of narcotics, including cocaine valued at $19.2 million.
The latest operations took place in various divisions.
Early Friday morning, between 1 am and 4 am, officers from the Tunapuna Criminal Investigations Department (CID), alongside support from the North-Central Division Task Force (NCDTF) and other units, executed a house search in Bamboo Settlement #3, Valsayn.
The raid led to the discovery of an air rifle, a loaded pistol, and 13 rounds of ammunition, resulting in the arrest of three individuals found on the premises. In the Northern Division, police conducted a coordinated operation on Thursday night into the early hours of Friday, under the direction of Assistant Commissioner of Police Rishi Singh, Senior Superintendent Maynard-Wilson, and Superintendent Guelmo.
Responding to reports of assault and robbery in D’Abadie, officers intercepted a Nissan Almera with four male occupants, aged 18 to 25.
After searching the vehicle, an imitation firearm and stolen items from the robbery were found, leading to the arrest of all four suspects.
The most substantial narcotics seizure took place Thursday evening along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway near Grand Bazaar. Officers stopped two vehicles, uncovering 13.8 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $19,236,096. Three male suspects, aged 19 to 36, all from Fyzabad, were detained in connection with the find. Additional operations in the Central and Tobago Divisions saw further success.
In Central, the Gang Unit responded to a report of men brandishing firearms in Flanagin Town. Officers seized a loaded Smith and Wesson pistol and arrested a 20-year-old suspect. In Tobago, a search of a Mitsubishi flatbed truck at the Scarborough Port on Thursday evening uncovered 2.8 kilograms of compressed cannabis. The discovery led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man.
Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.
