$150,000 in fines issued for breach of Safe Zone Regulations

The Po­lice Ser­vice is re­mind­ing the pub­lic to com­ply with the Pub­lic Health Or­di­nance Act es­pe­cial­ly as it ap­plies to Safe Zones, af­ter 10 Pub­lic Health Fixed Penal­ty no­tices were is­sued at five bars in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion dur­ing safe­ty zone en­force­ment ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed be­tween Fri­day 17th and Thurs­day 23rd De­cem­ber 2021.

An of­fi­cial state­ment from the Po­lice Ser­vice re­ports that three of the bars were lo­cat­ed along South­ern Main Road in Cal­i­for­nia, Point Lisas, and Clax­ton Bay, while two were lo­cat­ed on Cedar Hill Road, Clax­ton Bay.

The five bar own­ers/oc­cu­piers were is­sued fines of $25,000 each for fail­ure to com­ply with re­quire­ments for en­try in­to a busi­ness. Five pa­trons, one at each of the bars, al­so were is­sued fines of $5,000 each for en­try in­to premis­es with­out be­ing vac­ci­nat­ed.

A to­tal of 47 es­tab­lish­ments were vis­it­ed by the Safe Zone Unit dur­ing the ex­er­cis­es and bar own­ers were re­mind­ed to com­ply with the Pub­lic Health Or­di­nance Act.

The ex­er­cis­es were co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Curt Si­mon, Supt Tewarie, and su­per­vised by ASP Ra­goo. They in­clud­ed Sgt Thomp­son, Sgt (Ag.) An­drews, and PC Mathu­ra.
