The Water and Sewerage Authority says four critical wells in Tobago have been vandalised, resulting in widespread disruption to the water supply. In a media release yesterday, WASA said the vandalism took place at the Claude Noel Highway, Bacolet, Arnos Vale and Bloody Bay wells, leaving 17 areas without a consistent supply of pipe-borne water.
The affected areas include Crown Point, Canaan, Bon Accord, Buccoo, Black Rock, Lowlands, Lambeau, Patience Hill, Signal Hill, Les Coteaux, Plymouth, Culloden, Sea View, Bloody Bay, Castara, L’anse Fourmi and Parlatuvier.
It said it has implemented increased security at key facilities and urged the public to report any illegal activity to its vandalism hotline 465-2949. It also reminded that vandalism was a criminal offence.
The authority said it was assessing the damage and undertaking corrective measures to restore supply to the affected areas. It said an interim distribution schedule is being developed to mitigate the impact.
Efforts to contact Infrastructure Secretary Nathisha Charles-Pantin for a comment yesterday were unsuccessful. —Stephon Nicholas
