Two people were arrested in connection with the murder of PC Kryston Ramirez during an exercise that was conducted in the Northern Division on Monday night.
According to a police report, the two men were among 13 arrested during Operation Strike Back, which was conducted in the Carapo and Peytonville areas.
Police said five people from Carapo were also arrested for gang-related activities; two people for possession of marijuana; two for obstruction, one for a shooting offence and another in connection with arson and sacrilege offences.
Investigating officers yesterday said that they were still yet to establish a motive behind Ramirez’s killing but were “almost positive” that they will get more information given the fact that “two persons of interest in the officer’s murder were detained for questioning.”
Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.
The exercises were co-ordinated by Ag ACP Mc Donald Jacob and spearheaded by Snr Supt (Ag) Curtis Paul, including officers of the Northern Division, Guard and Emergency Branch, Inter-Agency Task Force, Central Division, North Eastern Division, Eastern Division, Canine Unit and Air Support Unit.
According to a police report, at about 2.30 pm on Sunday two masked men entered the Classy Bar at Carapo Main Road, Arima, where Ramirez was working his second job. One of the suspects, who was armed with a gun, pointed it at Ramirez and fatally shot him. Both men then escaped.
Investigations are continuing.
