Police arrested 26 people for outstanding maintenance arrears and another eight on warrants for various offences during a two-day exercise in Central Division.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers of the Central Division Warrants Department executed 34 warrants during Operation Steady Guard between 8 am on Sunday and 12 pm yesterday.
Police said 26 affiliation warrants were executed for maintenance arrears totalling more than $147,439.
Among those arrested were a man from Petersfield who owed $26,000 in maintenance arrears, a man from Sum Sum Hill, Claxton Bay, who owed $25,602, and another Claxton Bay man who was in arrears of $21,402.
Police also arrested eight people on First Instance Warrants for offences including wounding, shooting, larceny and traffic violations.
Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen, Superintendent Glodon, Superintendent Frank, Assistant Superintendent Hernandez, Assistant Superintendent Hosein and Inspector Ramsaran spearheaded the exercise, while Corporal Ramadhin supervised operations.
