The three men involved in the fatal police-involved shooting in Princes Town on Friday have been identified.
The man who was shot dead in Cleghorn Village has been identified as 21-year-old Everitte Charles. The two other men who were arrested in connection with the alleged attempted robbery of a liquor mart were also identified. One of them is a Special Reserve Police Officer. All three men are from Bridge Road in Diego Martin.
The men were treated for injuries at the San Fernando General Hospital after the incident.
According to Senior Superintendent Richard Smith on Friday, police received information about the planned robbery and a team of police officers blocked off parts of the Naparima-Mayaro Road in an effort to intercept the vehicle.
He said the confrontation between the trio and the officers began after an officer spotted the suspects’ vehicle and pursued it.
Senior Superintendent Smith claimed that the suspects fired at the police first, adding that two firearms were found on the scene.
In the aftermath of the police-involved killing, Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher ordered an investigation into the killing and said, via a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service release, that she was awaiting further information from the team.
The CoP said she was aware of a viral video that allegedly showed part of the incident.
