A 34-year-old man has been charged with robbery with violence following an attack in St Julien Village, Princes Town, earlier this month.
Police said construction worker Vishal Lochan, 27, of Mahogany Trace, Naparima Mayaro Road, New Grant, was walking east along Naparima Mayaro Road near KP Supermarket at about 9 pm on June 6 when a white Nissan AD Wagon pulled alongside him.
Investigators said two men exited the vehicle and allegedly assaulted Lochan, repeatedly kicking him about the head, face, neck and chest, causing injuries. The attackers then allegedly stole a black Samsung A13 cellular phone valued at $1,300, a black wallet worth $45 containing his national identification card valued at $50 and $260 in cash before fleeing in the waiting vehicle.
As part of the investigation, police obtained a medical report for the victim, processed the scene, recorded statements, interviewed witnesses and reviewed video footage.
Their enquiries subsequently led to the arrest of a 34-year-old man from Princes Town.
Following a verification exercise and an interview with the suspect, investigators submitted a file for legal advice. Police said instructions were later given to charge the suspect with robbery with violence.
