A 34-year-old man has been charged with rob­bery with vi­o­lence fol­low­ing an at­tack in St Julien Vil­lage, Princes Town, ear­li­er this month.

Po­lice said con­struc­tion work­er Vishal Lochan, 27, of Ma­hogany Trace, Na­pari­ma Ma­yaro Road, New Grant, was walk­ing east along Na­pari­ma Ma­yaro Road near KP Su­per­mar­ket at about 9 pm on June 6 when a white Nis­san AD Wag­on pulled along­side him.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said two men ex­it­ed the ve­hi­cle and al­leged­ly as­sault­ed Lochan, re­peat­ed­ly kick­ing him about the head, face, neck and chest, caus­ing in­juries. The at­tack­ers then al­leged­ly stole a black Sam­sung A13 cel­lu­lar phone val­ued at $1,300, a black wal­let worth $45 con­tain­ing his na­tion­al iden­ti­fi­ca­tion card val­ued at $50 and $260 in cash be­fore flee­ing in the wait­ing ve­hi­cle.

As part of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion, po­lice ob­tained a med­ical re­port for the vic­tim, processed the scene, record­ed state­ments, in­ter­viewed wit­ness­es and re­viewed video footage.

Their en­quiries sub­se­quent­ly led to the ar­rest of a 34-year-old man from Princes Town.

Fol­low­ing a ver­i­fi­ca­tion ex­er­cise and an in­ter­view with the sus­pect, in­ves­ti­ga­tors sub­mit­ted a file for le­gal ad­vice. Po­lice said in­struc­tions were lat­er giv­en to charge the sus­pect with rob­bery with vi­o­lence.

The mat­ter is sched­uled to be heard in the Princes Town Crim­i­nal Court this week. - Kevon Felmine
