A 23-year-old labour­er, who al­leged­ly sodomised a 12-year-old boy, has been grant­ed $300,000 bail.

The man ap­peared be­fore High Court Mas­ter Adia Mo­hammed yes­ter­day charged with three of­fences, in­clud­ing sex­u­al pen­e­tra­tion, sex­u­al touch­ing and ex­pos­ing a child or caus­ing a child to be ex­posed to pornog­ra­phy.

The charges stemmed from an in­ci­dent on May 3.

It is al­leged that the ac­cused and the vic­tim had con­sumed al­co­hol, and the man had shown him three naked peo­ple kiss­ing on his cell­phone.

Lat­er, the sus­pect al­leged­ly as­sault­ed the boy.

The boy’s fa­ther took him to the Oropouche Po­lice Sta­tion, where they re­port­ed the in­ci­dent, and the ac­cused was sub­se­quent­ly ar­rest­ed and charged by PC Di­anand Heer­alal. The boy was med­ical­ly ex­am­ined at a med­ical fa­cil­i­ty.

Fol­low­ing a bail ap­pli­ca­tion by his at­tor­ney Ki­ran Pan­day, the ac­cused was grant­ed bail on the con­di­tion that he re­port to the Princes Town Po­lice Sta­tion on Sun­days.

Mas­ter Mo­hammed al­so in­struct­ed him not to en­ter Siparia or have any con­tact with the vic­tim.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Sep­tem­ber 5 for a suf­fi­cien­cy hear­ing.
