Six foreign nationals, who reportedly are from Margarita, Venezuela, are the latest detainees being held by the local authorities for illegal entry into Trinidad.
According to official police reports, the six Venezuelans were detained by officers of the South Western Division Task Force during an anti-crime exercise on Thursday 28th January 2021.
The Police Service says during the exercise, officers received information regarding persons entering the country illegally. That information led them to #4 Road, Palo Seco, where they searched a forested area and discovered, and subsequently detained the illegal immigrants.
The Police Service confirms that the detainees were conveyed to the Siparia Health Facility where they were medically examined, and then taken to the Santa Flora and Erin Police Stations.
They are due to be conveyed to the Coast Guard Base at the Heliport in Chaguaramas.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Neil Brandon-John, Supt Singh, Ag ASP Simon, supervised Sgt Crawford and included officers from the Inter Agency Task Force.
Investigations are continuing.
