Some six­ty-one fixed penal­ty tick­ets have been is­sued to per­sons for breach­ing the COVID-19 reg­u­la­tions for fail­ing to wear a face mask.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) re­ports that the tick­ets were is­sued dur­ing an ex­er­cise car­ried out across three Polic­ing Di­vi­sions, be­tween the pe­ri­od 6pm on Sun­day 6th and 6am on Mon­day 7th Sep­tem­ber 2020.

The penal­ty for fail­ing to wear a mask is $1,000 as a first of­fence. The Po­lice Ser­vice is re­mind­ing cit­i­zens that this is one of the mea­sures im­ple­ment­ed in the Pub­lic Health Or­di­nance reg­u­la­tions, to com­bat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Ac­cord­ing to the TTPS re­lease: fifty-six (56) in­frac­tions oc­curred in the East­ern Di­vi­sion, where the Ma­yaro Po­lice alone is­sued fifty-two (52) tick­ets.

The TTPS is urg­ing all cit­i­zens that in or­der to re­duce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, they must ad­here to all the COVID-19 Reg­u­la­tions by:

■  Wear­ing face masks,

■  Not hav­ing gath­er­ings of more than five per­sons in pub­lic places, and

■  Prac­tic­ing so­cial dis­tanc­ing.
