A Bel­mont man is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port of Spain Mag­is­trate to­day, via video con­fer­enc­ing, charged with the mur­der of Lawrence Charles, which oc­curred on Tues­day 19th May 2020.

20-year-old Hasani Bak­er—of Up­per Mary­land Hill, Bel­mont—was al­so charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion, fol­low­ing ad­vice re­ceived from Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard SC, on Tues­day 26th May 2020.

The vic­tim, 36-year-old busi­ness own­er, Lawrence Charles, al­so of Bel­mont, was found out­side his busi­ness place with gun­shot wounds about the body on Tues­day 19th May 2020. He was tak­en to hos­pi­tal where he died.

Of­fi­cers con­duct­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent sub­se­quent­ly ob­served a blue Nis­san Almera mo­tor ve­hi­cle with three male oc­cu­pants trav­el­ling at a very high speed which aroused their sus­pi­cion.

The ve­hi­cle was in­ter­cept­ed and three male sus­pects, one of them nurs­ing a gun­shot wound to his leg, were ar­rest­ed. The wound­ed man was tak­en to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment, while the oth­er two were de­tained.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent were su­per­vised by Snr. Supt. Chan­dool and W/Supt. Mar­tin, both of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions (HBI), Re­gion 1.

Hasani Bak­er was charged by PC Pierre, al­so of HBI Re­gion 1, on Tues­day 26th May 2020.
