A Plaisance Park man was shot and killed on Friday night after he dropped off his pregnant girlfriend.
Ackino Penniston, also known, as Abu, was the lone occupant in a white B15 vehicle when assailants attacked at Sea View Drive in Marabella, shooting and killing him.
According to his mother,Pauline Leonard, Penniston and his girlfriend had just attended her grandmother’s wake.
She said he dropped his girlfriend off and was returning home, when three men with firearms jumped out of some bushes and opened fire on him.
She said he left home around 6.15 pm and then later got a call that her son had been shot and killed.
She said by the time she arrived at 10.20 pm, Penniston was slumped backward and dead in his car seat.
She said her 27 year-old-son was “no saint” and in the past, he had some brushes with the law but he was never remanded.
“I prayed for him to change and he did. He is the last of my nine children and the first to die. He turned his life around in the last two years and he got a job at Point Lisas to work as a lorry man. He also did fishing. He was expecting his first child in March. I saw him during the day on Friday, he real clean up and wash and was packing the child clothes he brought; he was in a joyful mood,” Leonard said.
Speaking from her Mc Naughton Jones Street home, Leonard said, “I believe I will get justice based on the way the officers handle the investigation and the professional way they talked to me.
“One officer told me he knew Ackino was turning around his life, so it gives me a sense of confidence that something good will happen. I would like to give full kudos to members of the San Fernando Homicide Bureau and other officers who investigated my son’s shooting.”
The murder count now stands at eight for the year.
