Thir­ty-three-year Vish­nu Badal was re­mand­ed in­to cus­tody yes­ter­day, af­ter ap­pear­ing in court charged with the mur­ders of 16-year-old Shenelle Singh and her broth­er Ke­ston.

Badal, of Naggee Road, New Grant, Princes Town, was ar­rest­ed by po­lice last Thurs­day, the morn­ing af­ter the mur­ders.    

Shenelle and her broth­er were al­leged­ly at the home of the sus­pect on Sep­tem­ber 4 when they were chopped to death with a cut­lass.

Shenelle’s body was dis­cov­ered on the ground a short dis­tance away from the house, while her broth­er’s body was found slumped on a couch in the gallery.   

There were chop wounds across Shenelle’s face and on her broth­er’s neck and feet. Shenelle was a stu­dent of the Ma­yaro Sec­ondary School and her broth­er was a se­cu­ri­ty guard.

Badal was charged by Cpl Ra­moutar. He ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly be­fore High Court Mas­ter Mar­garet Sookraj Goswa­mi and the charge was read to him. The sta­tus hear­ing was fixed for Sep­tem­ber 23, 2025, while a suf­fi­cien­cy hear­ing was fixed for Oc­to­ber 7, 2025.
