Commissioner of Police (Ag), Mc Donald Jacob, presided over the meeting yesterday with the Municipal Police Unit in San Fernando to deal with several issues, including the upcoming Christmas period.
Mr Jacob said with the relaxation of the Public Health Regulations, more people are out in public. He noted that the last three months of the year, always present a challenge to the TTPS in terms of fighting off the criminal elements. This year, he said, the TTPS has to also deal with Covid-19. He expressed his gratitude to the Municipal Police for their excellent relationship with the TTPS. The acting CoP said this could only augur well going forward.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ag), Joanne Archie said the TTPS and the Municipal Police enjoyed excellent results, saying they operate as one team.
Senior Supt Cecil Santana, who is in charge of the Municipal Police Unit in South, promised that his unit will work closely with the TTPS as the Christmas period approaches. He revealed that both organisations enjoyed success in the past when they worked together.
Acting CoP Jacob also addressed the issue of the misuse of police vehicles and the Extra Duty issue. He called on the senior officers in all Divisions to speak with their officers, saying that persons in public are good at “grooming” police officers to be in their pockets.
He said members of the public are not only to be blamed. He said police officers fall in the “grooming” and become corrupted. Mr Jacob said a corrupted Commander can corrupt an entire Division.
