Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice (Ag), Mc Don­ald Ja­cob met with the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice in South to dis­cuss sev­er­al is­sues. The fol­low­ing is an of­fi­cial re­lease from the TTPS.

Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice (Ag), Mc Don­ald Ja­cob, presided over the meet­ing yes­ter­day with the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Unit in San Fer­nan­do to deal with sev­er­al is­sues, in­clud­ing the up­com­ing Christ­mas pe­ri­od.

Mr Ja­cob said with the re­lax­ation of the Pub­lic Health Reg­u­la­tions, more peo­ple are out in pub­lic. He not­ed that the last three months of the year, al­ways present a chal­lenge to the TTPS in terms of fight­ing off the crim­i­nal el­e­ments. This year, he said, the TTPS has to al­so deal with Covid-19. He ex­pressed his grat­i­tude to the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice for their ex­cel­lent re­la­tion­ship with the TTPS. The act­ing CoP said this could on­ly au­gur well go­ing for­ward.

Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice (Ag), Joanne Archie said the TTPS and the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice en­joyed ex­cel­lent re­sults, say­ing they op­er­ate as one team.

Se­nior Supt Ce­cil San­tana, who is in charge of the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Unit in South, promised that his unit will work close­ly with the TTPS as the Christ­mas pe­ri­od ap­proach­es. He re­vealed that both or­gan­i­sa­tions en­joyed suc­cess in the past when they worked to­geth­er.

Act­ing CoP Ja­cob al­so ad­dressed the is­sue of the mis­use of po­lice ve­hi­cles and the Ex­tra Du­ty is­sue. He called on the se­nior of­fi­cers in all Di­vi­sions to speak with their of­fi­cers, say­ing that per­sons in pub­lic are good at “groom­ing” po­lice of­fi­cers to be in their pock­ets.

He said mem­bers of the pub­lic are not on­ly to be blamed. He said po­lice of­fi­cers fall in the “groom­ing” and be­come cor­rupt­ed. Mr Ja­cob said a cor­rupt­ed Com­man­der can cor­rupt an en­tire Di­vi­sion.
