The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) has congratulated Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the UNC-led coalition on their victory in the 2025 general election.
In a media release issued on Monday, the business chamber said the election result reflected the public’s support for the new administration’s platform and praised citizens for participating in the democratic process.
“We wish Prime Minister-elect the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her administration every success as they embark on this important chapter of leadership,” the statement read.
AMCHAM T&T said it stood ready to work with the incoming government to help drive economic revitalisation, investment, and sustainable growth. The chamber identified several priority areas for collaboration, including strengthening both traditional and renewable energy industries, expanding the tech sector and digital economy, and implementing reforms to improve the ease of doing business.
However, it flagged crime as the most urgent issue facing the new government.
“The number one priority of the Government has to be to reduce crime — a critical element in restoring investor and public confidence and ensuring a safe and prosperous society,” the release stated.
The chamber also highlighted the need for education reform, warning of a “Caribbean-wide crisis” in mathematics and English that threatens the future of the region’s youth.
Calling for a more collaborative approach to governance post-election, AMCHAM T&T stressed the importance of broad-based cooperation to achieve shared national goals.
“We encourage the Government to adopt a more collaborative approach now that the campaign is over. The more people in the boat, rowing in the same direction, the more likely we are to get to the intended destination.”
The statement ended with a renewed commitment to supporting initiatives that boost innovation, economic activity and sustainable prosperity for all citizens.
