A Laventille man was abducted and robbed after accepting a job via TT Ride Share in Santa Cruz on Sunday night.
The 30-year-old, of Mc Shine Lands, Laventille, who is employed with the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Service as a retail officer, also operates as a driver with the TT Ride Share company.
Police said the man accepted a job via the Ride Share app around 11.15 pm at Sam Boucaud Grounds, Santa Cruz, where he was instructed to pick up a woman near the WASA pumping station.
Arriving in his Toyota Axio motorcar, the driver was approached by a couple, during which time four men also approached the car and got in.
One of the suspects, who was seated in the left rear passenger seat, pointed a gun at the driver and instructed him to climb into the backseat.
The remaining suspects then proceeded to search the car, taking the victim’s Samsung Z Fold 4 cell phone, valued at $8,000; one Google Pixel 6A cell phone valued at $3,500; a bag containing $800 in cash which represented money collected through the TT Ride Share service; and one bottle of cologne valued at US$50.
The suspects then placed a vest over the victim’s face and ordered him out, following which they placed him in the trunk and locked it.
The victim said the suspects then drove off but crashed a short distance away.
He was able to free himself by opening the trunk from the inside and ran to a nearby house, where he requested assistance and the police were contacted.
The victim accompanied arriving officers to the scene where they found the car abandoned.
