A Diego Martin woman’s apartment and an auto supply store were destroyed after a fire broke out at a building yesterday afternoon.
While the exact time the blaze started remained unclear up to press time, residents along the Diego Martin Main Road said they saw flames and smoke coming from the second storey of the building, which houses Supervalue Auto Supply at the corner of Covigne Road, from as early as 4 pm.
Residents contacted the Fire Service, and officers and appliances from the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded to the scene.
Footage of the blaze was circulated on social media shortly afterwards.
When Guardian Media arrived at the scene shortly after 5 pm, most of the flames had been extinguished.
One resident said he was grateful that no one was inside the apartment at the time of the fire but noted that a pet dog belonging to one of the occupants died in the blaze.
“It was really sad to hear.
“But with all the oil and grease they have in the auto supply place, it could have been worse.”
Fire officers continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
