A Laventille man, who was stabbed several times during an argument with a neighbour on Thursday night outside his home, has died.
The deceased was identified as Andrew Soleyn, 41, of Point Pleasant Park, Laventille.
The suspect, also aged 41, reportedly lives a few doors down from the victim.
Soleyn’s relatives reported that they heard him arguing with the suspect around 9.15 pm on the roadway, following which it escalated into a physical altercation.
It was alleged that during the altercation, the suspect stabbed the victim several times about the head, upper body and right leg before fleeing the scene.
As Soleyn’s relatives were alerted that he had been injured, one placed the bleeding man in the back of his truck.
Soleyn was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment but died at 10.02 pm.
Investigators later went to the suspect’s house and found him nursing a bleeding index finger.
Questioned about it, the suspect reportedly said he had injured himself whilst opening a tin of tuna.
He was arrested by officers and taken to the hospital where he was treated and discharged into the care of the police, who later escorted him to the Besson Street Police Station, where he remained up to yesterday.
