Forty-one days after 14-month-old Natalie Seenath went missing, the child was reunited with her father, Dave Richie Seenath, at their family home in Carapichaima yesterday afternoon.
The reunion came following the intervention of a Guardian Media crew who managed to unearth some information on the possible whereabouts of the child.
Little Natalie went missing on July 18. She was last seen by close relatives. From that day, however, relatives from the father’s side of the family were unaware of the child’s whereabouts.
“Every night I cried for my daughter because she’s my princess, she’s my angel,” the child’s father said yesterday.
Seenath claimed he made several attempts to report his daughter missing but said officers never took an official report. Instead, according to Seenath, they made calls regarding her whereabouts.
A police official at the Child Protection Unit confirmed to Guardian Media that they were investigating the child’s disappearance.
But yesterday, Guardian Media was able to get information and contacted a woman from south Trinidad, who admitted the child was at her home along with a 19-year-old relative.
The woman promised to ensure the child was reunited with her father.
Around 3 pm, little Natalia, along with a female relative, showed up close to the father’s house, where a reunion between father and daughter took place.
After a few minutes, Seenath, his sister Valary and other relatives were able to take the 14-month-old baby home.
“We are so happy to have her back with us. As soon as we brought her home I gave her a bath because she was a little dirty and put on clean clothes for her and gave her a bottle of tea. After she had her tea, she played with her favourite toy and her dad and all of us home here. We are thankful to the Guardian Media team for coming here today and bringing us joy because we tried all how to locate her,” Valary said.
Seenath said while his daughter was missing, he heard rumours she was sold for $30,000.
Late yesterday, Seenath, his daughter and other relatives visited the Freeport Police Station to report that the infant had returned home.
