Tobago Correspondent

A man and a woman are Tobago’s first road fatalities of 2024. They were killed in an accident that occurred around 12.05 am along the Windward Road, Claude Noel Highway, near the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

Police said Kareem Thom, a 26-year-old resident of Big Hole, Goodwood, was driving a white Nissan Tiida with three passengers, Sherma Thomas, a fellow resident of Big Hole, Sachelle Kennedy, 33, of Majuba Trace and two-year-old Jacobi Thomas.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with an iron railing on the southern side of the road. The car then crashed into a tree down an incline.

A DMO pronounced Thom dead on the scene at 1.25 am and ordered his body to be removed to the Scarborough General Hospital Mortuary.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, transporting the injured occupants to Scarborough General Hospital where Thomas passed away after being examined by doctors.

Up to yesterday afternoon, the survivors remained hospitalised in stable but serious states.

Investigations are continuing.
