A PH taxi driver was kidnapped and robbed by three men during the early hours on Friday, as he stopped to drop off a passenger in Cunupia.
The harrowing ordeal later ended with the suspects driving to the victim’s house, where he was ordered to hand over a certain amount of cash or his family would be killed.
Police said the 31-year-old victim of Hummingbird Avenue, New Settlement, Chaguanas, had been plying his car for hire when he stopped to drop off a woman around 2 am at Marchin Road, Cunupia.
It was reported that as he exited the silver Nissan B15, three men walked up and covered his head with a cloth, following which they bound his hands and feet before bundling him into the backseat.
The victim said he was driven to an unknown location where he was robbed of a Samsung A16 cell phone, $800, and US $120 in cash.
He was then placed in the trunk of his car, before the suspects drove to his home at Caroni Savannah Road, where they demanded $3,500 in cash or they would kill his family.
The frightened man handed over the money, following which the suspects drove off in his car.
Police are searching for the suspects, who they said included a Spanish-speaking one. —ALP
